Blue and terra cotta rain barrelsRain barrels are used to collect rain water to reduce the amount of polluted sediment and stormwater runoff that flows through storm sewers to the Wabash River.

Each rain barrel is fifty-five gallons in size and are made from food grade recycled plastic. They are available in blue or terra-cotta. The lid of the barrel has holes drilled to allow water to drain into the barrel from the downspout, and a screen in the lid to keep out debris and mosquitoes. Each barrel has a garden hose size spigot at the bottom so that you may attach a hose to the barrel to use for watering plants. The barrels also have an overflow fitting to allow the excess water that flows from the downspout to be diverted away from the barrel.

With proper installation, maintenance and use, your rain barrel should function properly. The City of West Lafayette assumes no liability for the installation, maintenance, property damage or injury associated with your rain barrel.
