Through the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Safe Streets for All (SS4A) program, the City of West Lafayette secured funding to support the city in planning roadway infrastructure improvements that will prevent injuries and save lives. This program's purpose is to fund implementation, planning, and demonstration activities as part of a systematic approach to prevent deaths and serious injuries on the nation’s roadways. The city has retained American Structurepoint to develop the Comprehensive Safety Action Plan for our community. For this action plan to truly reflect our community needs, we need your input.  Together, we can identify behaviors and attitudes that impact road safety, identify mobility challenges, and develop effective safety strategies and community-supported improvements to enhance safety for all road users.

Vision Zero

What is Vision Zero?

Vision Zero is an ambitious initiative focused on eliminating traffic fatalities and severe injuries. It aims to reshape the conversation around traffic safety by:

  • Emphasizing that traffic deaths are preventable.
  • Integrating human factors into the approach.
  • Preventing fatal and severe crashes.
  • Adopting a systems approach.
  • Highlighting that saving lives is not expensive.
  • Incorporate equity into project and policy development to protect underserved populations.

The City of West Lafayette is committed to roadway safety for everyone.

The West Lafayette City Council have shown their support of this initiative by ratifying the resolution found here.

To achieve this goal, West Lafayette has enlisted American Structurepoint, funded by a Safe Streets for All (SS4A) planning grant from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), to develop a citywide safety action plan aimed at enhancing roadway safety and reducing collisions. This plan will:

  • Utilize data to analyze patterns and identify locations where specific projects can improve safety.
  • Review West Lafayette policies and ordinances to determine potential citywide improvements.
