Why do our pools close when there is nearby thunder or lightning? 

According to the safety guidelines provided by Pool Operation Management, the American Red Cross, the CDC, and the Indiana Department of Health the recommendation is to close and clear the deck of an indoor or outdoor pool during a thunderstorm.

If there is thunder or a lightning strike within 8 miles our pools will close for 30 minutes. This 30-minute timer resets every time thunder is heard or lightning is seen.
