Basic Requirements Police Officer:
- US Citizenship, at least 21 years of age at the time of application and no older than 40 years of age or be a veteran with 20 years of armed forces service with a maximum age of 40 years and 6 months, at the time of appointment. Be of good moral character, have no convictions for felony crimes, and possess a valid driver's license, high school diploma, or G.E.D., and not have abused any drugs/narcotics within two years of application date.
To be considered for the West Lafayette Police Department one or more of the following requirements must be met:
- Completed 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of college credit at an accredited college or university with at least a 2.0 GPA based on a 4.0 grading scale; or
- Honorably completed 2 years of active US Military Service; or
- Employed as a full-time Law Enforcement Officer for a minimum of 2 years.
Benefits
- Probationary patrol officers start at $68,235 and after one year it increases to $71,995
- Clothing allowance - $1,500/year
- Specialty bonus (FTO, SWAT, ect.) $250/year for each
- Take home car if you own a home in city limits
- Longevity pay at year 5 - $250/year. At year 20+ longevity is $10,000/year.
- Annual College Degree Incentive
- $1,500 annual bonus for sworn personnel who hold a master’s degree
- $1,000 annual bonus for sworn personnel who hold a bachelor’s degree
- $500 annual bonus for sworn personnel who hold an associate degree
